Departmental Profile

          Zoology is the branch of biology that deals with living as well as extinct animals and their interaction with environment. The Department of Zoology (Honours & General) was established in 2004 with an aim to provide quality education to students. Bachelor of Science in Zoology is a three-year-course with a total of six semesters. A graduate degree in Zoology opens a vast range of career opportunities in the field such as Teaching, Research, Forensics, Indian Forest Services, Indian Administrative Services, including working as zoo curators, museum curators, animal and wildlife educators, wildlife rehabilitators and conservationists. The Department has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty with good teaching and research experience. Faculty member of the department has published reputed undergraduate text books. The department is actively involved in organizing Exhibition, Seminar and Environmental Awareness Programmes. The department organizes seminar for students every year where each student is to deliver lectures on their respective topics.
 

     INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES FOR THE STUDENTS

All modern sophisticated instruments are provided to students for various laboratory works. In the laboratory, students are supported and guided by efficient laboratory staff.
Teachers are always available for the students for their personal problem, carrier advancement and proper guidance.

Student’s Assessment:

Class tests are taken from time to time after finishing the topic. 

Seminar Library:

         The department possesses a rich Seminar Library with well displayed books, journals. and computers, Overhead Projector and Slide Projector are used for teaching in the classes.
Museum:

        Departmental Museum is very much enriched with a number of local and rare specimens with a number of skeletons, charts models etc.

Extension Activities:

1. Educational Excursion:

The Department regularly organizes Educational Trips to Coastal area, Wildlife Sanctuaries and National Parks for enrichment of the students

2. Wall Magazine:

The students of this department publish a wall magazine “EVOLUTION” with the help of 

the teacher.

3. Students Seminar:

The department organizes regular seminar for Honours students. The students generally speak on syllabus related topics followed by questionnaire.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF STUDENTS:

         The Zoology department being one of the best departments of Belda College has a high academic excellence both among teachers and students. Bulks of our students have been well placed in various Jobs. 

         Students qualify the examination like, NET, BET, DBT, PG Entrance Test etc. They also participated in District Student-Youth Science Fair, organized by the Dept. of Youth Service & Sports, Govt. of West Bengal and they got 2nd position in this competition in 2017, 2018 and 2019. One student selected for Students ‘Research Convention (East Zone), ANVESHAN 2019 -2020 which is held on 12&13.02.2020 at Jadavpur Unuiversity.
